International Migrants Day – A Message of Solidarity, Empathy and Unity

8th primary school of Thebes in Greece | Teachers: ΜΑΤΣΑΓΓΟΥΡΑ ΕΙΡΗΝΗ & ΤΣΙΟΥΤΣΟΥ ΖΩΗ

On the occasion of International Migrants Day, celebrated annually on December 18th, the students of Class E1 of our school actively participated in a creative and collaborative activity as part of the eTwinning project “SEL Wiz: Hocus Pocus: Heart and Mind in Focus – Discovering Nature’s Magic Within”, which celebrates UNESCO Days for Sustainability and Peace by cultivating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in students.

The activity centered around the powerful slogan:

“International Migrants Day: No One Should Face the Challenges of Migration Alone; Open Heart, Open Mind, Extend Your Hand and Ensure Every Migrant Finds a Place to Belong.”

Each participating school contributed to the creation of a joint poster by designing one word of the slogan using the digital tool FlamingText (https://flamingtext.com/). The words were uploaded to the project’s Twinboard, and the final collaborative poster was designed using Canva.

Through this action, students:

Expressed their support for people who are forced to migrate,

Cultivated empathy, inclusion, and respect for diversity,

Developed their digital and creative skills,

Learned about migration using educational materials from UNESCO and UNHCR.

By using technology with purpose and engaging in socially meaningful activities, the students of Class E1 demonstrated that every child has the power to become an ambassador of peace, acceptance, and solidarity.
