A Wonderful Journey with Our First Grade in the eTwinning Project

Participating in the eTwinning project was a truly rewarding yet challenging experience for our first-grade class at 2nd Primary school.of Ag.Nikolaos Primary School. This particular age group is just beginning its journey into literacy, learning their first letters and words, and taking their initial steps in reading and writing. As a result, engaging with the project's themes required thoughtful adaptation and simplification of complex ideas.

The educator carefully introduced concepts related to the 17th Sustainable Development Goal (Partnerships for the Goals) and Mindfulness, using age-appropriate language and activities. These ideas were taught cross-curricularly, blending seamlessly with the subjects of Language, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. This interdisciplinary approach helped children connect with the topics in a natural and engaging way, within the context of their everyday learning.

One of the highlights was our celebration of World Water Day. The children explored the water cycle, learned about the three states of water (solid, liquid, gas), and discovered that this year’s theme was dedicated to glaciers. The activities sparked their curiosity and brought lots of joy to the classroom.

Another activity that truly captured their interest was learning about the Morse Code. After being introduced to it, the students excitedly began sending each other simple coded messages, experimenting with this new way of communication. It became a fun and meaningful part of our daily routine.

At the start of the unit, each child created their own digital avatar, a playful way to present themselves and build confidence in self-expression. This creative task helped the students feel personally involved from the very beginning.

A key teaching tool throughout the project was the use of storytelling. Stories helped the children explore and understand not only language and vocabulary but also important values such as courage, empathy, and friendship. These themes resonated deeply with the children and created memorable learning moments.

Overall, this project was an enriching and joyful journey. We are deeply thankful for the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful initiative. On behalf of our school, we extend a heartfelt thank you for including us in this project!
