As part of the European eTwinning project “SEL Wiz: Hocus Pocus – Heart and Mind in Focus – Discovering Nature’s Magic Within”, students from partner schools across Europe collaborated to design a unique interactive digital game using the Actionbound platform — an innovative location-based learning app for mobile devices and tablets. The project creatively celebrated UNESCO Days for Sustainability and Peace by cultivating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through meaningful, student-led experiences.
A meeting to discuss the Game Concept, the Structure of the game and Divide Responsibilities.
About the Game:
The Actionbound game was developed as an immersive and collaborative learning experience, where students engaged in a variety of missions, challenges, quizzes, QR code tasks, video-based activities, and creative puzzles. The game structure was divided into thematic levels, each inspired by key topics explored throughout the project, such as:
The core messages of “The Wizard of Oz”
Languages for Peace
Anti-bullying awareness
Creative thinking and coding
Human rights and equality
Sustainability
Water conservation
Internet safety
Emotions
Each partner school was responsible for designing one specific level of the game, creating original missions, questions, and content. The development process was student-driven, with international teams co-constructing the gameplay, testing it, and providing peer feedback for improvement.
Educational Benefits:
This digital game became a powerful learning tool that blended technology, creativity, and cross-cultural collaboration. Through the activity, students:
Strengthened teamwork and critical thinking skills
Explored real-world issues through play-based learning
Became familiar with digital platforms and tools
Engaged in artistic expression and reflective dialogue
Developed a global mindset through peer exchange
Students shared results about the creation of our game on twinspace chat room.
After the game was finalized, all participating schools played each other's game levels, took part in reflection sessions, and exchanged ideas in a virtual meeting held on May 12, 2025, where students shared impressions and learning outcomes.
The game is now available to play on mobile devices and tablets, with QR codes posted on each school’s official website. It serves as a living example of how student voice, creativity, and cooperation can transform learning into a meaningful, joyful, and socially impactful experience.
